| Administrator | I'm really not a fan of plastering sites with advertising to receive revenue, but at the same time webmasters need to do "something" to help the site pay for itself. So i have added another Adsense block to the top of all the pages under the navigation bar, BUT i have added conditionals around it so it will only display to guests. I feel this is a good compromise, as it won't effect members at all while at the same time it will increase revenue. Also it may encourage people that just come and read to join in order to remove the ad. I have tried to make the existing ads in threads as transparent as possible, and obviously i succeeded because they are lucky to receive one click a week hence the additional ad block up the top for guests. I don't want to make a profit with the site, and i don't even expect to break even but any extra revenue that comes in due to the change will be a bonus because i will be putting this directly towards advertising and promoting the site. Also i don't plan (or want) to place any more advertising on the site for members, if anything changes i will most likely remove the advertising completely for members and display it for guests only. New Ad Block:

| Junior Member | I know that I am new to this forum - but I would like to comment on this topic. There are untold numbers of websites on the web that get very good traffic and yet have trouble figuring out how exactly how to monetize the site to keep afloat while not blasting the valued users with advertisements. The first one that comes to mind is Facebook. Facebook is a hugely popular site and yet monetization is one of the main problems that this site faces. I really like the Idea of advertising mostly to visitors Something I wish other sites would do - as it makes a more enjoyable experience for active users. Additionally - I think that is in the best interest of users to spread the word about well built forum sites such as this in order to increase the traffic to the site - which will gain it more active users. The more active users there are, the greater chance there is for quality exchange of Ideas and opinions. The more quality of content there is - the more visitors and users this forum will receive. This will eventually lead to greater advertisement revenue for the site. The more revenue from visitors clicking ads - the greater quality experience the proprietor will be able to extend to us. What I am trying to say is: Advertising only to visitors is a tremendous idea - but is only becomes a viable monetization strategy if We, the users - make the effort to spread the word about the site. The better the revenue - the greater quality of experience - we the users receive. It is a revolving door - and to benefit from it - we must also step in and start pushing. This is only my opinion - and I hope no one will rip me a new one for sharing it. Best Regards to All. Neil |
