| Junior Member | Hi, I have never bought a domain before and I am looking at buying one, my budget is really limited... My question is that this particular domain has this information on the WHOIS: Record expires on 24-Mar-2008 Record created on 01-Jun-2004 Database last updated on 21-Mar-2007 Being that it is almost March, should I let the domain try to expire and then snatch it up? Or should I contact the buyer right now and get it? I obviously want to spend as little as possible, so I feel I should wait... Any recommendations? Thank you!! |

| Administrator | This is a catch 22 situation, he may not realize it's expiring and contacting him may just serve to remind him it's expiring and he could renew it. Also it shows someone is interested in the domain, and he could ask a lot more than you can afford in order to make a profit. The domain won't become available to register on the 24th March, so you are looking at a month or more after that before you can just register it. What's currently on the domain? If it's a site, he may have it on Auto-Renew considering it's 2004 registered.

| Administrator | With this one i think no matter what you do it can be a gamble. If you contact him it may alert him to the fact it's expiring, and he could re-register it hoping to sell it to you for $xxx If you let it expire it could get snapped up at auction and the buyer may not want to sell it. Have you checked Archive.org and had a look when the last time it had an active site? From this info you can find out if it was a company and what may of happened to it, for example if the company folded there's a better chance it will drop. I usually use gut instinct in these cases, but it's hard to say without knowing the name and being able to work out what the chances are. Another thing to remember, if it's registered at Godaddy it will go to auction on TDNAM first.
